Yorkshire Girls in New York City

A GIRLS WEEKEND IN NYC
Since September, some of my very best friend from home have been travelling all over the world, and their last stop was New York City. As I moved to New York in August, I hadn't seen them in 6 months, so of course I just had to get the bus to the city for the weekend and see them! This was my 5th time in the city, and although I'm definitely no expert, I put my tour guide skills to the test and spent 2 days showing them some of my favourite parts of the city - proud to say we didn't get lost (I don' think) at all! The girls had an extra 4 days after I left them, and so we did all the really small - but must-sees - whilst I was with them, and then they did the super duper stuff - such as Top of the Rock, 9/11, Statue of Liberty - later in the week.

First stop: Grand Central Station. Possibly one of my most favourite things to see in the city. The inside is just beautiful and the attention to detail incredible. Obviously as a Gossip Girl fan this is a must see too.

I've been wanting to see the Flat Iron in all its beauty for some time now, and finally I was able to get the perfect picture here! I can't really explain why, but this is by far my favourite building in the city.

Washington Square Park

If you know me well, you'll know my most favourite TV show ever is Friends. We all have that one TV show which you share with your best friend, and mine and Phoebe's is Friends and we have been obsessing over it together since year 8! It felt so crazy to experience the Friends apartment building with my best friend in NYC, 3400 miles from home.

For dinner we went to Big Daddy's in Union Square and boy was it good. I had a burger with mac and cheese in the burger!!!! Honestly think I'm getting high blood pressure even thinking about it, but it was sooo good. A defo foodie stop if you're ever in the city.

day 2

Unfortunately we weren't so lucky with the weather and so we headed to the Natural History Museum on Sunday morning. Although I'm now pretty good at navigating myself around the city on foot, I hate the Subway with a passion and avoid all contact with it if possible. However, we had no choice to get the subway there, but it was OK because the instructions were simple - get the B train and get off at 81st Street. So there we were chatting away, we knew it was 5 stops to go, and I look out the window and all of a sudden we are on 125 st!!! Turns out we had got on the express train instead!!! Luckily a very nice lady helped us out and directed us back to 81 st!
The Natural History Museum is also where they film Night at the Museum so it was pretty cool seeing it in person!

The city was absolutely freezing but we still stopped for milkshakes from Shake Shack to walk through Central Park with... also soooo good.

One of the main must-sees in Central Park is the Bethesda Fountain, and I'd actually never been before. Because of it being winter the fountain wasn't running but despite that it was still beautiful. I couldn't believe the intricacy inside the part under the Mall. While we were there we watched not one, but TWO proposals!!! Us girls were nearly crying haha!!! Also, I must point out that of course this is another MAJOR Gossip Girl filming spot!!!

On the way back to Times Square I took the girls down 5th Avenue, making pit-stops for the Palace (Gossip Girl) and the Rockefeller Centre.

We ended the perfect weekend in Times Square before I got the 6.30pm bus back to Binghamton. I was so gutted to leave the girls - I would have stayed longer but had a 9am class with quiz the next day, which I could't afford to lose points on - and I cried when they had to leave me!!! I won't see them now until may/june but so glad I got the chance to squeeze in two wonderful days with them before they went home. It was so lovely that we got to experience a little part of our world-wide travel adventures together.

The city break was just what I needed - after being down at the start of the semester and being bogged down further with so much work it was so nice to take a break and have a touch of home. Mind you, I feel like I've been playing catch up since I've been back!!

I hope you enjoyed this post, I certainly loved looking back through the pictures and remembering how fab the weekend was again!

Elsie xoxo
