Fall Break in the Big Apple

NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Back in October, we went to New York City for Fall Break! Since then I've had endless midterm exams and papers due, and so I'm only just getting round to writing this post- but its a good one!
We went to the city for three days, and had so much fun! I had a bit of a shock when we got back and realised how much work I had to catch up on, but it was soooo worth it. Back in Easter this year, I visited New York City on a politics trip with Lancaster, and so it was so amazing to be back again.

So here's a few of the photos I took and some things we got up to! I managed to compile it down to my top 43 photos haha, but I took over 1500 so that was pretty hard.

We left Binghamton at 3.30am the Saturday morning, and after a couple of hours sleep we arrived in the city at 7am! Port Authority bus terminal is just by Times Square and so we headed there first- it was so weird to see it when it was so quiet, there was hardly anyone there!

We then headed straight for some breakfast at a nearby diner which was so yummy, and after walked from Times Square to Grand Central Station. I love Grand Central Station; the building is just beautiful and of course its home to that first Gossip Girl scene!

How can New York City even make a construction site so photogenic?!

Grand Central Station's ceiling is incredible.

After Grand Central we walked to MoMa - The Museum of Modern Art. Now I have to say, art really is not my thing, and I did look at some of the paintings wondering what on earth was going on, but I did get to see Van Gogh's 'Starry Night', and some of Monet's work which was absolutely beautiful. On the way we stumbled across the Palace- another Gossip Girl fave!

Van Gogh's 'The Starry Night'

We finished MoMa at about 2pm, and then we went and had an awesome burger by the Rockefeller Centre. After that it was time to head to the bus stop for our second destination for fall break (coming up in my next blogpost). We managed to walk the whole way which although tiring, I much preferred to the subway as it was so nice to just walk through the city, taking in the atmosphere and fantastic views!

Walking through Hells Kitchen.

We arrived back in NYC at 10pm on the Sunday evening and managed to get a table and some food in Big Daddy's, not knowing how popular it is! I had a delicious Mac n' Cheese and the decor inside was like a typical American diner, and so so cool!

On Monday morning we walked the Brooklyn Bridge- from Brooklyn to Manhattan. When I visited NY at easter this was one of my favourite parts of the whole trip, and it did not disappoint this time either! It was so much quieter this time too which was nice, and we took our time to take in the incredible view of downtown Manhattan.

So many pictures of Brooklyn Bridge- I just love it so much!

Then we walked through the Financial District, past the NY Stock Exchange and Wall Street which was soooo busy!!! It was the middle of the day and a Monday so it was filled with people on their lunch breaks, and so many tourists too! We got the free Staten Island ferry which went past the Statue of Liberty- it was freeeezing!!!

Liberty looking great.

Elsie looking not so great- it was soooo cold and windy.

Once we were back in Manhattan we walked to the World Trade Centre and 9/11 memorial. I visited the 9/11 museum the last time I came to New York so decided not to go again this time; but if you ever visit NYC you must go.

Then we walked what felt like the entire stretch of New York City- from the World Trade centre all the way up to Times Square. We passed through China Town and Little Italy, and stopped to take some pics at Washington Square park. We also walked past the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Centre - the ice rink and the fairy lights looked so magical, and made me so excited for Christmas. We went for dinner at Ellis Star Diner; where the waiters sing and dance while you eat, and after went to a Comedy show.

Walking through Little Italy- thats the Empire State Building you can see.

On Tuesday we headed straight for The Met- The Metropolitan Museum of Art- which I appreciated purely just for another Gossip Girl moment!!! We spent a long time in the museum; I have now filled by quota of Art Museum visits for another 5 or so years.

After the Met we walked through Central Park and visited a bakery I had been eyeing up on Instagram for a while- Levain Bakery- the cookies were delicious! Central Park is so beautiful, I'm rather fortunate to experience it on sunny days both times I have been, but I imagine it looks amazing covered in snow too!!

The cookies really deserved this much concentration.

I really kind of want to go on a boat in Central Park someday now?!

After eating our cookies in Central Park, we got the subway to the Empire State Building, which was my most favourite thing we did on this trip to NYC! Unfortunately by the time we got there and up to the top the sun had just set, so we didn't really get to see the view in daytime light. Despite that, the view was just spectacular. I have also been up the Top of the Rock which gives a fantastic view of Central Park, but the Empire State is right in mid Manhattan and so the view you get of downtown, uptown and, to Brooklyn too is just incredible.

Incredible view at the top of The Empire State Building

We finished at the Empire State at 7.30pm and our bus was leaving at 8.30, so we had to walk very very fast to make it on time- luckily we did. We arrived back in Binghamton at midnight and I slept until 11am the next morning. Our mini trip was fantastic, the photos have turned out beautiful and I already can't wait to go back. I really hope to visit before my flight home at Christmas because I bet all the christmas lights and window displays are fantastic!

I'll post about our second fall break destination later this week- which was actually probably my most favourite day out of the break, so make sure you're looking out for that!

I hope you enjoyed this post, make sure you are following on Instagram too, as I'm much more active on there!: @elsiecussons
